They are quite rare to see on the beach, Louiseh. Usually, they wash ashore about every 8 years during a big storm, in their thousands

Nice capture of this beautiful, delicate seashell! I've never seen anything like this on Long Island, NY. From your description, I assume it feels like paper. Pretty presentation in the sepia-tone. L/F

Deborah; these shells wash ashore in Tasmania, Australia, during huge storms, every several years. They are extremely dlicate. About the same as an egg shell.
